Congrats to the House |

House Democrats refused to cave in to Bush, the Senate, or their own Republicans and wouldn't change their FISA bill, which does NOT include retroactive immunity for telecommunication companies. The Republicans were so infuriated they walked out. Yes, they took their ball and went home. Of course, they said that this threatens American security. It does not. The Protect America Act, which is the bill passed last August, already had in it an automatic extension of one year for any wiretaps that are currently in place. What if they need a new one? Well, they go back to the same system that has worked well since 1978 and go get a warrant from the FISA court. Novel idea, huh?
For more than a year I've been complaining that the House Democrats we elected in 2006 were doing nothing. Well, once again they did nothing. This time it was a good idea. I'll give them their due. Congratulations House Democrats. How does it feel to find your spine?
