60 Minutes did a piece on this amazing story of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman yesterday. (See The Weekly Wonk, 6/2/07) However, if you live in Alabama, where all the shenanigans took place, you didn't see it. The Alabama CBS stationed blacked it out, with a later statement that said, "We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring 'The Prosecution of Don Siegelman.'" WHNT said they lost the feed. (Tuscaloosa News) Yeah. Right. WHNT was one of those 77 stations that released fake news videos back in 2006. (PRWatch) According to the Democratic Underground, WHNT is owned by Oak Hill Capital Partners, founded and run by Robert M. Bass. Bass is a classmate and personal friend of George W. Bush and he and his brother, Lee, "helped Bush financially both before and throughout his political career." In 2004 he started Aerion Corp to develop supersonic corporate jets, which is the beneficiary of lucrative Federal DARPA contracts. While you can't cover this entire piece in 15 minutes, 60 Minutes did an adequate job of covering the false prosecution. However, it left too much unanswered. For instance, how did Siegelman's winning election get turned around? There's more to this, especially considering all the election fraud we've seen in recent years and this part of the story needs to be addressed. Also, does this tie-in to the firing of the U.S. attorneys? I'm not concerned about the attorneys who were fired. I'm concerned about the ones who weren't fired. What did they do to keep their jobs? And then there's the clear implication that Karl Rove was behind the whole thing, taking the felonious acts right into the White House. Election tampering; vote rigging; corruption in the Department of Justice; corruption of public officials, judges, and others in the judicial system; and corruption at the highest levels of the United States government. The story is far too important for just 15 minutes.
