It's only January and I'm sick and tired of hearing about Clinton and Obama. I am sick and tired of hearing their platitudes. They talk about change, they argue about it, but the only change either will bring is a different person in the Oval Office, not different policies. Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember hearing either say they will restore our Constitutional rights. Maybe it's because they don't plan on doing that. Maybe they plan to keep all that power for themselves. Neither offers much change from the last 25 years.
Obama's reference to Reagan demonstrated either his youth or his ignorance. Does he really not know the destruction this man wrought? Reagan? The man of the death squads? The man of the largest debt in history, at that time? (Bush has surpassed that dubious honor.) The man who set in motion the conglomeration of the media and the destruction of the middle class? He said Reagan changed the direction of this country. He's right. But not a direction that benefited average citizens. Obama seems to think Reagan's direction change was a good thing. By that reference, Obama was pandering to those voters labeled "Reagan Democrats." You really think he's going to bring any change to this country?
Clinton's popularity appears to be tied to her husband's popularity. I submit that Bill Clinton was popular only because he wasn't quite as bad as Reagan. But, he continued Reagan's policies of media conglomeration and the decimation of the middle class through his trade policies. He could have been a great president and "changed" the direction of the country. But he didn't. He had a "war chest" stuffed with money from corporations and he wasn't about to lose his new friends. His wife will bring more of the same.
In order to have real change in this country, we have to stop Corporatism, and only Kucinich and Edwards are talking about it. Yes I want universal health care, but that won't happen as long as Corporatism reigns. Obama and Clinton can talk all they want about health care for everyone, but we all know as long as they're getting money from the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, it'll never happen. And, we'll never stop the wars, the imperialism, the destruction of the middle class without wiping out the Corporatists. Anyone who can't see that Clinton and Obama are members of the establishment are dumb as stumps.
Do I want to see a woman in the White House? By all means. Do I want to see a black person in the White House? Yes, yes, yes. Do I want to see someone in the White House ONLY because he or she is black or a woman, with no other qualifications? Are you kidding me? That's the worst form of racism or sexism.
I don't remember who said it, but I see it coming down the pike. Democrats will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. All polls show the people want change. Real change. The Democratic Leadership Committee (DLC) will, once again, "lead" us into failure because, well, they're rich and they want to stay that way. You think the DLC is different from the Republicans? Then you've fallen for the great lie.
